IBM Haifa team working on an advanced methodology for fuzz testing

IBM Haifa team

As part of CloudWave's Feedback Driven Development (FDD), IBM is developing an advanced methodology for fuzz testing that leverages the power of static analysis combined with genetic mutation techniques.

Testing of new functionality or changes to existing code, especially in a DevOps environment, needs to be agile, yet comprehensive, since undetected defects can lead to unstable code, or even potential security breaches. Fuzz testing starts from a given test of the system, but then evolves its input conditions based on runtime feedback in order to cover a much broader range of input space than would typically be covered by in-house testing.

Fuzz testing is also being examined for in the context of FDD to predict the impact that changes in the input will have on application performance and functionality.
